£4,750 Compensation for Fall at Wedding Reception

Jeanette had gone to a wedding with her niece and other members of her family.

She had not been drinking during the day and at about 9.30 pm she decided to leave the reception. To make her way out she had to walk down some stone stairs, it was dark and had been raining heavily during the evening. The steps were lit only at the foot by period style lanterns and therefore, in walking down to the lanterns, it was effectively dark.

When was half way down the stairs she lost her footing and fell down the 8 or so remaining stone steps before being knocked unconscious. When the ambulance crew arrived they had to request torches because visibility was so poor.
