£11,000 Compensation for Trip in Restaurant

Stephanie went out for a meal with her son and husband to a restaurant that had deliberately dimmed lighting to create an atmosphere.

In addition, the floor was dark brown and to outline the edge of a step there was a black strip across it. Because of the poor lighting Stephanie did not notice the step, or the black strip, and she tripped and injured her right ankle. The restaurant refused to accept that it was at fault and completely denied liability.

The matter was therefore heard before a Judge at trial who accepted Stephanie’s evidence that she could not see where she was going and awarded her damages in full.
